Because our internet is still seriously borked (and Fairpoint is evidently choosing to ignore the problem) I’m not going to be able to run the webcam tonight for Flashback Friday.  I tried yesterday, and with just one person viewing, it was like watching stop motion animation in slow motion. With an eight minute lag.

So to make things easier for everybody, I’ll put this month’s Flashback pieces up with tomorrow’s update instead.  This month I’m bringing back the Gratitude series, in versions that haven’t been seen in quite a while — over the years the design evolved into one particular style, but there were some earlier incarnations that I liked quite a lot as well.

Tomorrow’s update will happen at 2 p.m. eastern time, and will contain 15 new pieces in the Strange Worlds series, 8 Gratitude pieces, and the July Shiny of the Month.

Thank you for your patience!

Internet: Seriously Borked.

We’ve been getting so much rain that DSL lines in the area are flooded*, and our internet connection drops every minute or so.  I’m still getting my email a few times a day, and I do plan to do the update on Saturday even if I have to drive out of the monsoon area to do it, but it’s very unlikely that I’ll be able to run the webcam until this is fixed.

* Or so Amy tells me.  It was a lot more complicated than that, but she’s an engineer and I’m an artist and my eyes glazed over after a few minutes.  All I know is that it’s been raining for weeks and our internet doesn’t work right anymore.

I am very, very tired of rain, for the record. And so are the dogs.

40 new items tonight, including labradorite, kunzite, rainbow and peach moonstone, three colors of kyanite, garnets, iolite, and a bunch of other stuff I’ve been hording.

Two things happening tonight - Instant Gratification will run from 10 p.m. - midnight eastern time for all you night owls and west coasters, and before IGM starts I’ll be doing a special one-hour promo involving those fiberoptic cats, from 9 - 10 p.m. eastern time.  The webcam will be on for both events, so there will probably also be guest appearances from Slippers The Kleptomaniac Cat and possibly a not-so-small-anymore puppy.

We will be at the Concord Arts Market tomorrow, rain or shine — the only concession I’m making is to set up my tables at the back of the tent so people can come in out of the damp to shop!  (Well, that and leaving the spinning wheel at home.)  If you’re in the area and going stir-crazy from being stuck inside in this weather, grab your rainboots and an umbrella and come say hi.

Also, a reminder - Boston-area jewelry party, July 5th!  It’s in Medford and is accessible via public transit.  Space is limited, so please email kythryne@wyrdingstudios.com to RSVP and get directions.

ETA: Also also, open studio here in Concord, August 1st and 2nd. Come see the studio, meet the menagerie, and oogle the shiny.

three WS auctions!

There’s a fundraising auction happening over on LJ to help keep my friends Catherynne Valente and her fiancee from literally becoming starving artists.  As I have been a starving artist myself, and didn’t care for the experience one little bit, I put a couple of things into the auction.

Custom Jewelry - if this auction goes over $100, I will toss in one of the amber and pearl “November” pieces in the style of those I performed with Cat and SJ on the Palimpsest tour.  This design has been discontinued now that the tour is over, and only six were ever made.

Unreleased Palimpsest Pendant - this series will be coming out later in the summer, but right now, the pendants only exist as notes in my sketchbook. The winner of the auction will get to see scans of my sketchbook and choose their favorite, which I will make.  Normally, NOBODY gets to see my sketchbook, except the occasional close friend who’s rummaged through my workbench while visiting and unearthed it from its usual position under several piles of shiny objects.

One Of A Kind Palimpsest Necklace - I made this for the art exhibit part of the tour.  Right now the bidding stands at $30, which is a steal and a half on a piece like this.

There’s a lot of other really cool stuff in the auction, and it just started yesterday so I’m certain many other nifty things will be added in the days to come.

And they’re up!

Also, I will be doing a jewelry party in the Boston area on Sunday, July 5th at 2 p.m.  I will have all of my show inventory (which includes a few things not yet available on the website) and can also bring items from the website if requested, and I will be doing custom work on the spot.  If you haven’t been to one of our parties before, they are VERY casual and there is absolutely no pressure to buy things; if you want to come just to oogle the shinies and hang out, that’s perfectly fine by me.  Email kythryne@wyrdingstudios.com to RSVP and get the address!

First Friday

First Friday Monday Flashback: Pop Culture In Space!  From 8 to 8:30 I will be making as many pieces as I can in this series.  At 8:30, I will switch to requests; I’ve had requests for Peacock In Love With The Mirror, Window Into Dreamland, New Wine From Old Casks, Sundering Persephone and Secrets of the Bronze Age (both of which are really too new for this, but we’ll see how things go), Of Order & Communication, Fairy Explosion, Mermaid Dreams, and River Road.  I’ll do as many as I can, ending at 9 p.m., and then they’ll go up on the website just as quickly as I can photograph and upload.

EDIT, 9:00: Done!  8 Pop Culture pieces, and six others.  Taking a quick stretch break, then photographing etc.  They should be up by 9:30 or 10.

Reminder — IGM from 6 - 8 p.m. tonight, followed by the June Flashback at 8 p.m..  Half of the Flashback session will spent on Pop Culture In Space, the other half will be devoted to requests.  There’s still time to request something — just post a comment telling me what you’d like to see resurrected!

Unrelatedly, the next website update will be Friday, June 26th, and it will be a big one — at least 40 or 50 items, all of them with really stunning and/or interesting gemstones.  I’ve been hoarding some rather spectacular stones, and I’ve decided it’s time to stop being a dragon and let them go out into the world.  Mostly feldspars, because you know how I am about the labradorite, but other things as well, and if I make it over to my local wholesaler next week, who knows what might come home with me.
