Armor For The Coming Days
Armor For The Coming Days
This necklace was originally intended to be just three of the big vintage metal pieces with a bit of wirework and maybe some extra beads, but it had a mind of its own, and three days of workbench time later, well… this was the result.
This is LARGE. (The second largest wirework necklace I’ve ever made, actually.) It is not even a tiny bit subtle. It is also heavy - currently it weighs 5.5 ounces, and depending on what length it ends up being and how many counterweights I need to add to the back to make it balance comfortably (yes, there is structural engineering involved) it could easily hit half a pound. Despite its size and weight, it’s surprisingly comfortable to wear - I did a temporary clasp so I could wear it for photos and while I definitely know I’m wearing it, it doesn’t hurt or pull uncomfortably on my neck, and that’s without any counterweighting.
The metal and rhinestone pieces are vintage “new old stock” costume jewelry components sourced from my favorite supply store in NYC; the metal is some sort of silvery plating over copper, so if you have any metal allergies you will want to apply clear nailpolish to the back of each one. (The copper is visible in a few tiny spots on the loops at either side of the metal pieces, but there’s so much wirework in those places that nobody will ever notice.) Some of the tiny rhinestones may fall out eventually - I always tell people to consider that a sign that it was protecting you from something. The large round glass beads and the teardrop-shaped glass beads are also vintage.
It will fit best worn slightly below choker length, right over the collarbones. I can adjust it to pretty much any length, but I can’t really make it shorter than 15 inches.
The price includes either a video call (or as many emails as necessary) to for me to do the initial fitting before it ships, and a second video call (or more emails) if needed upon arrival to help tweak the fit. If you are local-ish to Concord NH or close enough to be willing to drive to me AND if you are fully vaccinated against covid AND willing to wear a mask while I’m getting all up in your business, we can do an in-person fitting instead.
The price also includes insured Priority Mail shipping within the US.
I am willing to ship this outside the US, but see above about it being large and heavy - it will be expensive, and it will need to be insured. Any international shipping rate the cart shows you for this will NOT be correct - please email me your address if you would like a shipping quote.
