A Concise Index Of Imaginary Planets

So, I’ve had these fascinating dyed agate beads for a couple of years, and while I made a few into pendants and earrings, mostly they’ve just been sitting in a bead case taking up space, because I could never quite figure out what to do with them.

Turns out the answer was “use ALL of them in one giant necklace” and so that’s exactly what I did on Friday. It’s not often that I let myself take an entire day just to work on one single piece, but I’d had a long and exhausting week, and I decided I was overdue for some fun, and... well, not only did I end up using all* of the agate beads, I had to rummage out even more beads to go with them.

It’s mostly dyed/crackled agate, but there’s also some sodalite (that big blue one, and I’ll note that it’s unusual to see translucent sodalite) and Russian amazonite, and a chevron amethyst bead, and a rhyolite bead, and some other stuff might have snuck in too but I’m not sure anymore.

*All but a few that I’ve saved to use while sizing it to its person.

This is BIG. It weighs over 4 ounces as shown, and it’s a solid 2” tall in front, tapering down to about 1.5” at the ends of the 11”-long front section. It can be sized to any length from 12” to 26”;  depending on the desired length, I may expand that 11” section a couple more inches before tapering down to a narrow-ish wire-only clasp section. I’ll need to get a handful of measurements from you to get the sizing right, and I’ll send you photos to approve before shipping it. If you have any neck or back issues and are concerned about the weight, please talk to me; I can counterweight it so it balances more comfortably.

I had it on for a while yesterday to photograph it, and despite the size it’s pretty comfortable to wear. Or as one person pointed out, it would make an absolutely glorious crown as well...

(Due to its size, this will need to be shipped Priority Mail. If you’re within driving range of Concord NH, we can also discuss meeting to do the final fitting.)

The price includes working with you to determine the correct length and fit and adjusting it to its final size, plus one free resizing/balance adjustment (shipping not included) within the first year if needed.

My silver wire is .999 fine silver over a copper core, encased in a durable clear enamel coating. (My gold, bronze, rosegold, and copper wires also have the clear enamel coating, unless otherwise specified.) I have been using this wire since I began making jewelry in 2003, because it is extremely non-reactive - people with metal allergies can wear it! - and it does not tarnish. It is also easier for me to manipulate than solid sterling wire, which allows me to hand-sculpt it into the intricate fwooshiness of my trademark style despite the extensive hypermobility caused by Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

In the interest of being environmentally friendly, I keep my packaging as minimal as possible while still protecting the contents. Most orders are shipped in small kraft boxes inside bubble mailers, with items packed together whenever possible rather than using a single box for each piece of jewelry in an order. (Gift bags are available!) Larger items are usually shipped wrapped in tissue paper in a Priority Mail box.

I am transitioning away from using packing slips or other paper inserts; while many small businesses like mine routinely include handwritten thank you notes in every order, I feel it is more environmentally responsible to express my appreciation for your patronage via email rather than contributing to the contents of your recycling bin!
