The Mermaid Crown

The Mermaid Crown

This piece took me WEEKS to make and is possibly the most elaborate thing I've ever made - if not at the top of the list then definitely in the top five. It had a mind of its own and really wants to be a crown, but it can also be worn as a choker/tall collar - I will work with you on sizing. If you want to wear it as a crown, I can either turn it into a closed circlet or add loops at either side for hairpins; if you'll be wearing it as a necklace, it will have a clasp in the back and possibly some counterweights.

It is completely solid with beads and wirework and is one of a kind with no possibility of me ever making a copy of it - I will be able to do something similar in style, but many of the things in it are the last I had of that particular thing and some of the things are vintage things that I don't expect to ever find again.

Listing everything that's in it would take longer than I have today, but there's coral, pearls, shells, opals, rose quartz, moonstone, labradorite, glass, a quartz crystal, a raku octopus, a tiny ceramic otter, purple paua shell beads that are likely very old, something green that I think is aventurine but might be aquamarine, seaglass that is either from Loch Lomond or Lake Erie, several carved howlite skulls, a very old carved mother-of-pearl turtle, lepidolite, smoky quartz, pink sapphires, bits of vintage costume jewelry, a big aura quartz crystal, vintage plastic and glass beads, botswana agate... and a LOT of coiled and sculpted rose-gold copper and silver wire. (The coils alone took most of an entire work day.) More will get added once I know how you'll be wearing it.

It is HEAVY. (6 ounces and that's before finishing it and adding the counterweights.)

It is VERY LARGE. (3 inches tall in multiple places, and that's not counting the chain dangles. It doesn't even fit in my necklace inventory drawer.)

In the US, it will need to be sent via Priority Mail with full insurance, which is included in the price. I can not ship outside the US due to laws regarding the export of coral. The price also includes a video call to help with sizing if you don't already own some of my large necklaces.

(All of the coral in this piece was purchased around 20 years ago or was salvaged from broken vintage jewelry - I no longer buy coral beads.)
